Annual General Meeting

Keewaytinok's Annual General Meeting was held in the basement of Christ the King Catholic Cathedral in Moosonee. A large turnout of regular and junior members enjoyed dinner experly prepared by Chairperson Ken Wesley and Ruby Etherington. Seetal Sunga, a former staff lawyer spoke about some of the unique aspects of life in a remote community. Elections were held for the board of directors and reports were delivered by the Chairperson, Secretary-Treasurer and the Executive Director.

A one day workshop on conflicts of interest in corporations was held in conjunction with the Annual General Meeting. Clinic staff and board members were joined at the workshop by representatives by other community organizations. Roger Regular, a co-op student from Northern Lights Secondary School delivered a presentation.

The new board of directors includes:  Ken Wesley (chairperson), Laura Uiselt (secretary-treasurer), Maude Tyrer, Jackie Hunter, Trina Hookimaw and Barb Louttit from Moosonee, Emily Linklater and Mark Butterfly from Moose Cree First Nation, Donna Ashamock from Mocreebec, John Paul Nakochee (cochair) from Fort Albany First Nation, Sydney Goodwin and Jimmy Wynne from Kashechewan First Nation and Brian Hunter from Weenusk First Nation. Christopher Kataquapit was subsequently appointed by the Attawapiskat First Nation.

Three people who have assisted the clinic for many years were honoured at the meeting:  Alfred and Laura Mitchell, our cleaners, and Anna Bella Goulet who has worked as a translator and interpreter for Keewaytinok.
